I belong to the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This professional body provides information, training and expertise on the subject of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

I am a member of The National Council for Hypnotherapy which regulates standards of professional hypnotherapy training.

A bit about me...

I have been working within mental health for 20 years. Most of that time was spent in the world of homelessness where I encountered and supported clients with complex needs, ranging from depression and anxiety through to schizophrenia. Addiction problems were common. I became increasingly frustrated as I saw my clients struggling through the statutory mental health system which is stretched to breaking point. I often saw those that I supported coming out of therapy sessions in tears and feeling worse which seemed somehow pointless.

I discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy while I was struggling to pass my driving test a few years ago. I could drive fine, it was just the test that was awful and sent me into complete panic. I found a local Hypnotherapist Clementine O’ Shaughnessy and she completely turned my driving test around. Her explanation about how anxiety is created was so sensible that it caused light bulbs to go off in my brain and I decided to train to become a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist.

I trained at the Clifton Practice which is the leading hypnotherapy training centre in the UK. David Newton, who came up with the concept of merging Brief Solution Focused Therapy with Hypnotherapy was my tutor. I can honestly say that in terms of getting people sorted out and back on track without tears and pain, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has no match.

I am involved in ongoing research into the efficacy of hypnotherapy and it is my sincere hope that all of us who trained with David will be able to bring this research to the attention of the medical establishment and save the NHS lots of money.
